More people would be depressed, if parents tried to please their children as frequently and as badly as children try to please their parents.

About This Quote

I’m not sure what to say about this quote. I don’t think it’s meant to be taken literally, but rather as a cautionary warning that people are often too quick to please other people. Parents are often incredibly bad at this. They want their children to be happy, so they’ll do whatever is necessary to make their kids happy.

The problem with doing whatever it takes to make your child happy is that the child tends to feel like he has no choice in the matter. If you want your child to be happy, do what you can to ensure that he or she is happy. Too much bending or flattering of children does not provide for good parenting.
